My Film Review

In my review I created an article showing the top picks of the year showcasing mine and my peers films I will exhibit this review in Total Film magazine:

The above pictures show the front of my article and a overall picture of the article in its entirety, the last picture shows the full review of my own film as it is the largest of the sections I had to give it the best and most in depth review, the writing style is in keeping with Total Film's as I conform to the sarcastic and witty style by appealing to film fanatics which is my target audience.

Magazine Overview

Focus Group

I conducted a focus group in which I gathered my peers and screened my final film and asked for feedback by producing a feedback form asking questions to see if the audience understood what happened to the main characters son and what aspects people enjoyed/ they thought could be improved.

I also asked what they thought of my poster as I had shown two versions of the character poster one with blood splatters and one without and from the feedback given, my peers had helped me see that the poster without blood splatters looks like a plan for a poster instead of a final product.

My Final Poster

This is my final poster that will be exhibited in an issue of Total film, I decided to use a colour scheme of red, black and white as the black is bold so my audience won't have a problem reading the information, red symbolizes danger as the blood splatted in the background suggests this character is dangerous and has perhaps done questionable things in the past. The white symbolizes the characters new found purity but also his certainty for revenge. The information I have included is the date, distribution company, title, director's name and actor's name with the tagline \"you can't bury your past".

My Chosen Poster

The poster I have chosen for my film is the character poster as I feel it teases the audience but also intrigues them enough to seek out the film.

During a recent focus group session I asked which poster the group like better A or B:

A                                                                                                                          B

The decision was poster B as it felt more like a poster for a film whereas poster A felt unfinished, I have included the measurements for the poster to be exhibited in a issue of my chosen magazine next to the review.

Mock Up Posters

After my analysis of the posters I created mock up posters for my own film:

Teaser:

The poster depicts a plate of toast with jam spread with a threatening knife to make the jam look like blood which fits within my genre of crime as it teases the audience with violence, I included a tagline and date for the film with the film 4 logo as I have chosen to distribute my film through that company.

Character:

This poster shows the main character holstering a weapon which shows he is dangerous with a threatening look towards the audience, the information included is the tagline, title, date and website link to find out more about the film, I can also include the name of the actor who portrays the character.

Theatrical:

This poster shows the main character outside the films location with a view of the underground of his house to show bodies of people he has killed, the information I would include on this poster would be the distributor, director's name, producers, actors, etc with the date of the film and link to the website.

Poster Analysis

Below I analysed the three types of poster (Teaser, Character and Theatrical) for the film "Mean Streets" as it has the same type of style I am aiming for in my own film:

Teaser:

Character:

Theatrical:

From this analysis my favourite type of poster is the character poster as you can show the audience little sneak peaks of the traits they hold.
